Engineering News-Record (ENR) has recognized four Dewberry projects as best projects in the Mid-Atlantic for 2012. Dewberry provided professional engineering services for projects in the Transportation, Best Healthcare, Specialty Contracting, and Office categories. All four projects embrace sustainable design principles and expedited project delivery.
Dewberry's projects will be honored in the Mid-Atlantic edition of ENR in December and during an awards ceremony on December 11, 2012, in Baltimore, Maryland.
Transportation
Award of Merit: InterCounty Connector (ICC), Contact C, Baltimore, Maryland
InterCounty Connector (ICC), Contract C; Baltimore, MD
Dewberry was the lead designer on the IC3 Constructors team, a joint venture including Shirley Contracting, Clark Construction, Atkinson Construction, Facchina Construction Company, and Trumbull Corporation. The $513.9-million, 3.8-mile project included more than 20 bridges, interchanges with state routes and Interstate 95, and comprehensive efforts to reduce environmental impact.
Healthcare
Best Project: Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Fort Belvoir, Virginia
Fort Belvoir Community Hospital; Fort Belvoir, VA
The $956-million, LEED Gold
® certified, Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, was an integrated-design-bid-build project to meet Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) requirements. The joint venture team of HDR and Dewberry designed a 120-bed in-patient facility, more than 700,000 square feet in four clinical buildings with more than 50 clinical modules for out-patient services, administrative office functions, a 28,250-square-foot central utility plant, and two five-story parking garages.

Best project: U.S. Naval Academy, Hubbard Hall Restoration and Modernization, Annapolis, Maryland

As lead designer of structural, civil, and surveying services, Dewberry was a member of the Forrester Construction design-build team for the $14.3-million renovation of historic Hubbard Hall, home of the three United States Naval Academy rowing crews. Unique features of the facility include progressive collapse retrofit design for the building, replacement of the entire first floor framing system, wharf rehabilitation and enlargement, geothermal system, and state-of-the-art rowing tank facility.
Office
Best Project: Headquarters (ATEC HQ), Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland
As a member of the Foulger-Pratt Construction team, Dewberry provided site/civil design services encompassing strategic site planning and layout for the three-story, 141,766-square-foot, LEED Gold certified administrative office building that supports more than 600 personnel. Development of the 20-acre site, west of the Chesapeake Bay, minimized impact to the surrounding environment and was expedited to meet BRAC deadlines.
