Florida’s first continuous flow intersection is now open in southwest Florida, following a ribbon cutting ceremony in July. The intersection, located at State Road 82 and Daniels Parkway/Gunnery Road, is a unique and innovative solution to a heavily congested corridor. The $56.1-million-project included the continuous flow intersection and five miles of six-lane, high-speed urban roadway. Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, provided transportation engineering design services for the project.
“We’re thrilled that the state’s first continuous flow intersection is now open and operational, providing congestion relief and safer traffic flow for drivers in southwest Florida,” says Dewberry Vice President and Project Manager Kevin Knudsen, PE. “This project challenged our team to develop creative solutions in order to deliver a design that meets the needs and expectations of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and local residents.”
