Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing

A Facility to Suit Multiple Needs
Prince George County, Virginia

The Commonwealth Center for Applied Manufacturing (CCAM) is a collaboration between higher education applied research and private-sector manufacturing companies. The facility needed a new two-story, 50,000-square-foot building for research, manufacturing, and office use, and we were selected to provide site/civil engineering services. The completed center consists of offices, conference spaces, classrooms, high-bay research laboratory space, and collaborative spaces for academic staff, students, researchers, and partners. The facility was developed by the University of Virginia Foundation.

parking spaces

Our services included site planning, land development engineering, and stormwater management. The design consisted of a sanitary pump station, grading and drainage plans, utility plans, site preparation, and site design for the development of a parking lot, which has approximately 125 spaces, pedestrian crosswalks, and bike racks. We also designed utilities for the building, including water supply with a 12-inch waterline and three fire hydrants. New six- and four-inch sewer force mains were included along with a submersible sanitary pump station to serve the building's sanitary sewer system. We also designed a new stormwater management detention pond facility.
