The Pelham Parkway Phases I and II project focused on reconstructing three sections of the roadway. The project adds 1.7 miles of dedicated bus lanes along a critical cross—the Bronx corridor— thereby better connecting bus riders from Co-Op City to Manhattan. The improved transportation options via the Select Bus Service (SBS) lane are some of the first of its kind in New York City—benefiting 49,000 bus riders daily. These enhancements facilitate better access to shopping, schools, and businesses, providing quality of life for the community. The reconstructed roadway not only connects neighborhoods, but also improves safety for drivers and supports a resilient, sustainable future for the community.
In addition to upgrading the roadway, this project increased sewer and water system capacity, delivering vital new storm infrastructure.
Our firm prepared preliminary and final design associated with three roadway sections of Pelham Parkway. This project was divided into two construction phases, and each phase was constructed separately. The combined rehabilitated roadway sections span almost seven miles and include 12 signalized intersections, three pedestrian signalized intersections, 44,250 linear feet of curbing, 180,870 square feet of sidewalks, 77 driveways, pedestrian ramps, water and combined sewer manhole reconstruction, new catch basins, and 23,800 linear feet of 8-inch, 12-inch, and 20-inch water mains.
