The Tulsa Port of Catoosa in Oklahoma is constructing a barge fleeting area (BFA) at the confluence of Bird Creek and the Verdigris River. In addition to designing the BFA, we prepared a NEPA Environmental Assessment in connection with the wetlands surrounding
the BFA. The work addressed 73 acres of jurisdictional and 23 acres of non-jurisdictional wetlands and included securing water quality and wetlands mitigation permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Oklahoma Department of Environmental
Quality, the State Historic Preservation Office, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The BFA will allow for more efficient use of the port's current slack-water terminal by constructing additional berthing space for approximately 60 standard hopper barges.
